The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission is selecting candidates for the posts of combined civil services-1 (Group 1) with a total 90 vacancies. The various posts and vacancies are mentioned in the table below:

TNPSC Group 1 Application Process
The interested candidates who want to apply for the post should know the detailed application process beforehand. The registration process started from March 28th, 2024 and the last date for submitting applications is April 27th, 2024. According to the notification, the counseling date is April 12th, 2024. For step-by step process refer to the points mentioned below:
- Visit the official website www.tnpsc.gov.in and begin the one time registration process.
- For registration candidates can use the OTR platform available.
- Fill the application form by selecting the TNPSC Group 1 section.
- Fill the form and submit the required documents. Then, once done, you will land at the payment page.
- Pay the required application fee and download the application form for your reference in future.
TNPSC Group 1 Application Fee 2024
The candidates applying for the TNPSC examination will be accountable for paying an application fee. Without application fees, your application will not count completed. Check the application fees mentioned below:
- The application fee for the preliminary examination is INR 100. The candidates will have to pay the fee at the time of submitting the application form.
- The application for the main examination is INR 200 and the candidates qualifying the prelims examination will have to pay for the same.
In addition, the candidates should note that the fee can be waived off by claiming the exemption of application fee. Only the candidates belonging to the special categories based on the eligibility can claim for fee exemption.
TNPSC Group 1 Eligibility 2024
As per the official notification released by the TNPSC, some eligibility parameters have been set for the candidates:
- The candidates must fall between the age of 21-34 years of age to be eligible for the post, except for the post of Assistant Commissioner (Commercial taxes) for which the age limit is 39 years. For candidates possessing B.L. degree , the maximum age limit is 35 years.
- As the educational qualification is concerned, the candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university for general candidates. With an adequate knowledge of Tamil.
Apart from the age limit and educational qualification, the candidates should be an Indian citizen and should fulfill the necessary physical eligibility parameters for male and females separately.
TNPSC Group 1 Age Limit
The candidates applying for the post of assistant commissioner (commercial taxes), the minimum age should be 21 years as completed on July 1, 2024. For all the SCs, SC(A)s, STs, MBCs/DCs, BC(OBCM)s, BCMs and Destitute Widows of all categories, the age limit is 39 years. TNPSC Group 1 Recruitment Selection Process 2024
The interested and eligible candidates will be appearing for the preliminary examination. The shortlisted candidates will then appear for the main written test and interview. The three steps are as follows:
- The first round will consist of a preliminary examination which is like a screening test for the candidates. The candidates who will be qualifying this examination will be eligible to appear for the mains examination.
- The second round comprises a mains examination. It will be a written examination and questions will be subjective. The qualifying candidates will receive a call for the final interview round after the examination.
- The interview round consists of a personal questioning round to check behavior and general knowledge of candidates. It will be an oral test which will play a vital role in selection of the candidates.
TNPSC Group 1 Exam Pattern 2024
The whole selection process depends on the two examinations and an interview round. The three stages of the whole process concludes the exam pattern for the TNPSC Group 1 exam pattern:
- Preliminary examination: The duration of the exam is 3 hours and the paper consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. The total marks are 300. 175 questions will be from General Studies, and 25 questions will be from Mental Ability and Aptitude. Candidates will get 1.5 marks for each correct answer. There is no provision of negative marking.
- Mains examination: The duration of the exam is 3 hours. It is a descriptive writing exam of 100 marks. The mains exam consists of 3 General Studies papers. Each paper will be of 250 marks. No negative marking will be there.
- Interview: All the qualified candidates will receive a call for a personal interview. It will be an oral test of 100 marks.
TNPSC Group 1 Syllabus 2024
The TNPSC Group 1 exam pattern comprises three stages including a preliminary exam, a mains examination and a personal interview round. According to the official notification, the preliminary exam will consist of objective questions from General science, Current affairs and geography etc. The mains examination will be a written test and questions will be descriptive.
TNPSC Group 1 Salary 2024
The officers selected for the posts in Group 1 will get entitlement to a salary and certain perks according to the 7th Pay Commission.
